The Mechanics of Acoustic Guitar - Lick Library - Lee Hodgson
The Mechanics of Acoustic Guitar is an excellent double DVD, ideal for either the complete beginner or someone who has bashed around with acoustic guitar for a while and wants to get serious.
The DVD presented by Lee Hodgson has a good really thorough approach without being too dry or academic.
Lee manages to explain scales and such things not just as an academic exercise, but provides the examples and context to make the knowledge really sink in.
More than once you'll find yourself saying things "oh yeah I can see that now" or "so that's why people bother learning scales then" etc. etc.
You will learn, for example, not just how to form a chord shape but how it relates to a scale and how to work out chord shapes from a scale yourself.
If your new to guitar and this all sounds like gobbledegook, don't worry.
These are essential skills for understanding the instrument and by the time you've worked through this DVD it will all make perfect sense.
Also discussed are the different sounds and textures evoked by chords and how to structure a tune around them plus more practical activities such as strumming or finger style techniques.
The aim of the DVD is to take the guitar player from beginner to intermediate and it does this very well.
The emphasis is on understanding how things work to make you a better player and leaving you equipped with knowledge to create tunes and songs of your own - highly recommended.
