Get Thrashed - The Story Of Thrash Metal is a great documentary. (See trailer below)

It traces the history of Thrash Metal from when it exploded onto the scene, back in the mid to late eighties.

Told by bands that were involved at the time such as Metallica, Slayer and Anthrax, the first thing that really hits you is how different it was.

I remember it myself and at the time Thrash Metal was seen as the most extreme form of music around with it's fast, loud guitars, mosh pits and stage diving.

Describing it as the antithesis of hair metal, the documentary first deals with the formation of the genre.

It describes how Thrash took the the sound of metal bands such as Motorhead and Iron Maiden and fused it with the sound of Punk bands like Discharge and the music of the thriving hardcore scene.

The film covers both the West Coast scene including bands such as Slayer, Metallica and Megadeth and the East Coast scene such as Anthrax and SOD.

As the documentary states, everything changed with Thrash metal.

Thrash Metal's force and energy carried it from being an extreme fringe movement, to producing some of the biggest names in heavy metal, stadium gigs for bands such as as Metallica are now well known.

The docuemntary also covers the decline of the scene, largely prompted by the arrival of grunge through to the modern resurgence which can be seen in classic Thrash revival bands such Evile, or in the European Death Metal scene with bands such as Arch Enemy.

There is some great interview and footage covering some of the biggest names in metal including: Exodus, Kreator, Anthrax, Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Slipknot, Sepultura, Suicidal Tendencies etc. etc.

Thrash was ground breaking and hugely influential, it's sound echoes through many of the bands an scenes of today.

So if you were there and you want to relive the stage diving and mosh pits, or if you weren't there but you want to watch a great documentary with some of the most influential bands and events in modern music, get this DVD.
